ужин в клубе "Гридайрон"Ежегодный званый ужин, устраиваемый весной элитарным клубом виднейших журналистов и издателей [ Gridiron Club] для вашингтонской политической и деловой элиты. Среди примерно 600 приглашенных на ужин - "сильные мира сего": издатели, бизнесмены, звезды Голливуда, видные дипломаты, члены Верховного суда, лидеры Конгресса и влиятельные правительственные чиновники. Начиная с Б. Гаррисона [ Harrison, Benjamin], все президенты побывали на этом ужине хотя бы один раз. Приглашение на ужин считается признаком того, что человек вошел в круг избранных. Важным моментом ужина является капустник, на котором исполняются пародии на видных деятелей; могут выступить с номером - шутливым или пародийным - президент и его супруга. 27 марта 1992 на таком капустнике первая леди Нэнси Рейган [Reagan, Nancy] с успехом исполнила пародию на самою себя. Клуб "Гридайрон"Элитарный клуб профессиональных журналистов в г. Вашингтоне, периодически проводящий неофициальные встречи-ужины [ Gridiron Club dinner] с президентами США, конгрессменами, другими видными политическими деятелями. Основан в 1885 тремя видными газетчиками: Джоном М. Карсоном [Carson, John M.] из "Филадельфия леджер" [Philadelphia Ledger], Чарльзом Меррем [Murray, Charles T.] из "Филадельфия таймс" [Philadelphia Times] и Чарльзом Огденом [Ogden, Charles M.] из "Филадельфия пресс" [Philadelphia Press].
